Self-care is important, no matter the season. However, the cold weather and shorter days can make a negative impact on your mood, making a little pampering all the more necessary.

Some people are more affected by the seasonal changes and develop a type of depression called Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). If you have SAD, or symptoms of depression, it’s important that you talk to your doctor about your treatment options.

1. Go Outside at Least Once

The cold weather may make it less inviting to go for a walk, but getting outside at least once a day can make a big difference in your mood.

2. Try Some Indoor Exercise

Almost all doctors agree—regular exercise can improve your mood and cut down on anxiety. You might try following an aerobics video, dancing, or simply doing some stretches.

3. Bake a Sweet Treat

Taking the time to recreate a treat you love is a great way to pass the time and reward yourself with something warm and delicious.

4. Dive Back into Reading

Nothing passes the time like a good book. Curling up under some warm blankets and diving into a fictional story is a great way to shift your mood and take your mind off of the stressful things at hand.
